SOARING FORECAST MARCH 1 – 4, 2013

THIS WEEK Nice weekend on tap. Warmest weather of the season is forecast. Intense sunlight. Northeast flow Friday and Saturday changing to westerly by Sunday. Spring-like thermals will develop Friday and Saturday and will improve Sunday and Monday.

Dr. Jacks thermal forecast for our area predicts thermal velocity of 300 to 350 FPM Friday and Saturday.

Sunny, Temperature: 70 degrees.
Wind: East 10 – 15 mph.

SATURDAY
Sunny, Temperature: 75 degrees
Wind: East 5 mph.

SUNDAY
Sunny, Temperature: 70 degrees
Wind: West 10 mph.

MONDAY:
Sunny, Temperature: 66 degrees
Wind: Southwest 5 mph.

SOARING FORECAST FOR FEBRUARY 22 – 25, 2013

THIS WEEK Clear sunny skies are forecast through the weekend. Temperatures will be above normal for the season. Winds will be sporadic and from several directions due to the influence of a low pressure system passing far to our Northeast that will only have a distant effect on our area.

Our thermal season has definitively arrived. If there are clear skies -formation of thermals can mostly be counted on. Last week conditions appeared poor but several pilots had great flights of several hours in our local mountains flying thermals over our second and third ridges East to Wrightwood and beyond. More and better thermals likely to develop this weekend.

Dr. Jacks thermal forecast for our area predicts thermal velocity of 350 to 400 FPM Friday and Saturday.

SOARING FORECAST FEBRUARY 15-18, 2013

THIS WEEK We will have a nice window of warmer-than-normal temps with clear sunny skies through Sunday. Winds out of the northeast will be steadily offshore and breezy until cancelled Sunday by the arrival of westerlies and an Alaskan influenced frontal system. The season for spring thermals is upon us. Come on out and get some.

THIS WEEK A very interesting weekend of weather on tap. Conditions will be markedly different day to day as a frontal system swipes through quickly on Friday. Expect Friday to have chance of wave over several areas along with strong gusty winds out of the west.
Thereafter expect clear sunny weather for the remainder of the period.
