CURRENT SOARING FORECAST FOR SCSA (CRYSTALAIRE – 46CN) AUGUST 27-30, 2010

THIS PERIOD: – TRANSITION- Stationary high pressure over the four corners influenced blistering heat this last week. That cell is going to be pushed out east by the arrival of a good sized low pressure trof moving through starting thursday evening. That means seasonally lower temperatures and significant marine layer in the coastal areas to some distance inland. Not to worry, it will be sunny and hot at the airfield.
With strong gradients and a brisk southwest wind pushing out the high pressure cell to the east, the potential for WAVE is almost certain on both Friday and Saturday as the low pressure cell transitions through. Saturday looks to be the stronger wave day with southwest wind speed over the San Gabriels pushing 40 knots.

SATURDAY 2PM BOUNDARY LAYER WINDS FORECAST

Dr Jack’s predictions indicate FRIDAY the ceiling of useable lift will be at 13,000 feet with 600 fpm of lift at the field.

SATURDAYpredictions point to 500 FPM of lift at the field to 8,000 feet MSL.
